Pastoral Care

Holy Cross is a caring community where the rights of each individual are respected and students with special needs supported. At the more formal level this occurs by appropriate administrative and organisational structures designed to foster a climate where each individual is recognised for their own unique gifts and talents.

Specific pastoral initiatives include:

  • the appointment of pastoral teams to each year including a coordinator responsible for student welfare in that year.
  • a pastoral care coordinator responsible for overall student welfare and the development of appropriate pastoral strategies and policies.
  • a school counsellor available to students on a regular basis.
  • pastoral care periods when issues of concern for each year can be discussed and referral procedures to external agencies for students with special needs.
  • policy documents and student management strategies designed to foster care and concern for each student.
  • a special education unit designed to support students with significant learning or physical disabilities.
  • support for students from non-English speaking backgrounds by the provision of an ESL teacher and support program.
