Principal's Welcome
Welcome to the Holy Cross College, Ryde website. We are proud of our College and hope that the information at this site will help you to learn about the College. For new parents and students this is a major function of the site, while for present and past parents, staff and students it will be a way of keeping in touch with the dynamic changes at the College.
Holy Cross College was founded in 1891 by the Patrician Brothers. To this day it occupies the commanding position in Ryde which the Brothers purchased in 1896. The massive main sandstone building was opened in 1898. For decades the College served N.S.W. as a boarding school. Responding to pressure from a local housing boom, by 1970 all boarding places were phased out and the College became a day school only.
The College flourished in part because of its traditions – academic and sporting success, magnificent grounds and a proud list of notable ex-students. These did much to seal its present reputation. But not content to rest on tradition, in 1992 the College began a thrust to lead education technology in NSW. Innovations such as lap-top class programs (commenced 1994) and sophisticated television production (commenced 1999) are but two examples of the continued dynamism of the College.
The College ushers in the new millennium with its proud tradition along with a reputation for leadership in education technology. It is well placed to continue leading education in NSW.
We hope that the continual upgrades to this web site will allow parents and friends, staff and students – both present and past – to share with us as the Holy Cross story evolves with us today. You too can be part of that evolution by providing us with constructive comments and feedback through this site.
Thank you, in anticipation of your support and in helping the evolution of Holy Cross to even greater things in the future.
Mr Garry Williams
